FWP R2 is getting inundated with calls on black bears getting into residential attractants. The majority of the bear populations are using lowland habitats along streams and rivers---the temptations are great—lots of garbage, bird feeders, etc. Everyone should be running an especially tight ship at this time—with all attractants contained.   FWP staff, biologists and wardens are getting “way to many calls” about bears in bird feeders and humming bird feeders. Let all your neighbors know that the bird feeders need to come down.

Fuel Mitigation/Tree Thinning:  Landowners must fill out an application for thinning and, once the proposed plan is approved, may choose to fill out a cost share grant application to defray the cost. The cost share grant program, if available, may cover up to 50% of the cost with the landowner responsible for the rest.  Cost shares applied for AFTER work is done will not be approved.   The wood market is very poor, so it's unlikely that the remaining 50% of the cost would be covered by selling the timber.  Landowners are responsible for finding and hiring their own contractor.  Fire Safety Committee members or anyone acting on behalf of DARLOA cannot make any contractual arrangements for landowners.  There is a list of contractors available at the DARLOA office to assist in finding a qualified firm.  The Fire Safety Committee will assist landowners with thinning and cost share applications, finding property boundaries and marking trees.  For detailed info, the forms and guidelines are posted on the DARLOA web site under Documents, Fire Safety.  If you have questions, please contact the DARLOA office.

2010 Fire Season Forecast:  Below is a link to a 12-minute clip with the 2010 Fire Season forecast, courtesy of Ray Nelson, DNRC representative for the Northern Rockies Coordination Center on the Governor’s Drought Advisory Committee. Fire weather meteorologist Bryan Henry narrates the presentation. http://gacc.nifc.gov/nrcc/predictive/weather/SeasonOutlook/SeasonOutlook.html

Good Neighbor Handbook:  An excellent publication with loads of information for rural landowners in Missoula County.  A must read, even for those of us that have been here awhile. Here's a link to the document and it's also on the web site under "Documents, Local Interest".  ftp://www.co.missoula.mt.us/ruralftp/GoodNeighborHandbook/GNH.pdf

Agendas and Minutes of the Board of Directors and Committee meetings are under DOCUMENTS.  Click the "+" next to the link to a group to find a document.

Want to make a suggestion, a comment or voice a concern?  Landowners are encouraged to make constructive suggestions, comments and voice their concerns to the Board of Directors and Committees.  Go to COMMENTS & SUGGESTIONS on the web page menu, fill out and submit the form and someone from the BOD or a Committee will respond.  Be involved- help make DARLOA a better place!

Need a DARLOA form?  Online Forms are available to fill out and submit directly to the office- click on the "Online FORMS" link from the main menu.  All forms can be found under Documents, DARLOA forms.

Looking for the Bylaws and Covenants?  Bylaws and Covenants are found in the "DARLOA Governance" folder under "DOCUMENTS".  They are viewable by prospective landowners without logging in to the web site.

Volunteers are always needed to participate in making DARLOA a better place.  To share your time and talent please contact the office or Committee chairpersons.
